Well after a long battle of infertility, I am 16 weeks pregnant as of this coming Friday via an egg donor. We did the Maternit21 test and found she is unlikely to have any genetic disorders and she is a she! So I just want to let you know that it can happen.
However, while that is exciting news on a personal level, what is really exciting is that we have all of the paperwork ready to go to the IRS for full non-profit status. I am holding off sending it until I have the $850 needed to send with the paperwork. I am hoping I will be able to have that January 1, 2015.
So look out 2015! We may have a running non-profit that can bring hope to those of us who would love to be parents but just can't seem to get a break.
So I may have an egg donor. One of the things that must be done is a therapy session and, of course, a legal agreement. The least expensive legal agreement I can find in San Diego so far is $750 plus an additional $500 for a lawyer for the donor. Wow! My eyes are opened every day to the struggles that anyone going through this process will have.
I must find a lawyer who will work with our charity and provide affordable services!
I don't have a good idea on the cost of the counseling session yet. Just one therapist has responded with a cost of $250 (which is a discount because of the fertility clinic I use).
It would be really nice to have an advocate for women and men going through this process.
As soon as I receive word from the state I can start soliciting for donations of goods - baby and children's goods up to 4 or 5 years old, maternity clothes, toys, necessities, furniture, etc. in good condition. My intention for the shop is to have a boutique quality feel. As a non profit with a paid employee all items must be donated, but you can receive a tax write off if items are over a $250 value (I'm still learning the ins and outs). So start asking around and preparing your neighbors, friends, family, etc. Twinkle of My Eye will need these things soon.
If you'd like to donate time to help me get the store up and running or you have things such as a cash drawer or an iPad we can use for our register I would really appreciate it.
If I had my way, the store will use reclaimed furniture to display items for sale. I want an inviting clean space. I have my eyes out for things that will work. I have a meeting with the people I'd like to rent retail space from. I am really excited about that. I hope I can come up with a doable deal.
Here are some inspirations for the store:
I am so ready to see how I am going to make this venture successful. I wrote a heartfelt letter to the owner of a building I'd like to occupy and I am just waiting on a response. i will stop by if I do not hear anything in the next day or two. It would be so perfect for this. It has a great outdoor area I could host events, it has a small retail space and it is in a family oriented neighborhood with lots of parking. We'll see how it goes. I just hope I get the news I want. :-)
After reading through books, websites, blogs, government documents, etc., I realize I do not want to make any mistakes. I know I am smart enough to figure it out but not quick enough to get to the next step in a timely fashion. I found a company that works with people to make their non-profits a reality by helping to navigate the whole process. They have helped 13,000 non profits in 18 years and have never had an application denied. They can transform my ideas into what the government needs to make this happen.
I would like to team up with a psychologist or a school such as Alliant for free or discounted psychology sessions. This is often times a requirement for people who need to use a third party to have a baby such as an egg donor.
Secondly, I'd love to partner with an attorney or law school who specializes in fertility contracts or has the ability to take care of these issues as this is often an expense when going through this process.
So I have my EIN (Employer Identification Number) and my website registered. I am just need to finish up my Non-profit application to the state of California. I hope it is as easy as it seems to be going right now. If fertility could be this easy I'd have no need to start this organization. I am looking forward to this challenge. And like many of you who have found this site, I hope to be doing this pregnant. It's one day at a time right now though.
